Perspective
Matthew 6:9-13
One day last week, I was so wound up I couldn't focus on anything. There were several things on my mind and I didn't know what to deal with now and what was next. There was nothing out of the ordinary happening; just heavy doses of the same things that were usually at play.
I knew I needed to pray, but after several attempts I still couldn't find the words. Then I felt in my sprit that I should pray the Lord's prayer. And I did. With each line I prayed I felt more and more at peace. The prayer itself is designed to lay out our priorities right in front of us. We start by praying that God's name be made holy and a few lines later we are praying for our daily bread. By the time I got to the end I was able to see that so much my needs were already being met and I had a great deal to be thankful for. As I transitioned from the Lord's prayer to words of my own I was better able to articulate what I was experiencing. More importantly, I realized that I was in God's care and I had nothing to fear.
In the midst of a problem. prayer doesn't always feel like the solution. There are even times that it feels like it's just words. But I would argue that prayer is so much more. It is the opportunity we need to level set. It is the opportunity we need to lay our problems down at the feet of our Creator. It is the opportunity we need for rest. You should know that you can't do it all, be it all and know it all but He is and can and does. Connecting your inadequacies to His strength is all you need to do to know that you're going to be ok.
