Set A Guard
Psalms 141:3
As a young woman, my mouth was terrible. Truly. I used to pride myself on my sharp tongue and quick comebacks. At my worst I'd use my words to chop a person into the smallest possible pieces aiming to crush them completely. In maturity and wisdom, I learned just how harmful words can be and started to seek help and guidance to help overcome that behavior. I've come a long way, but boy oh boy, some days I still walk away from encounters where I'm not so proud of myself. On these days and days when I feel particularly edgy, I recall the scripture which asks God to set a guard over my mouth and a watch over the door of my lips. Having specific prayers for issues you struggle with provide instant comfort and support. Not just because you know He hears you, but because you know by His word that this is something that people are known to struggle with. And in His infinite wisdom, He addresses that issue by giving you the words to use in prayer so you don't have to find them.
The Bible reminds us there is nothing new under the sun and no temptations but those that are common to man. So know this my fiend, you are not alone. Whatever your issue find a scripture that gives you strength and hold it close. When you feel overwhelmed in that area, use it like the double edged sword that it is and cut through the energy building up around you. Remind yourself that you have help and a foundation to stand on. Deciding in advance how to handle specific issues in your life is the best way to maintain your balance when the wind blows.
