Growing up with 4 siblings afforded me a built-in, all-in team. Need some wheels? We got you. Need money? We got you. Need advice? We're here. Things had to be really, really bad for me to go to my parents for help. And I mean bad. Fortunately, I had excellent parents who loved and supported me always. And as long as I was under their roof, they took care of everything.

Why We Worry

Psalms 55:22

Growing up with 4 siblings afforded me a built-in, all-in team. Need some wheels? We got you. Need money? We got you. Need advice? We're here. Things had to be really, really bad for me to go to my parents for help. And I mean bad. Fortunately, I had excellent parents who loved and supported me always. And as long as I was under their roof, they took care of everything.

But when I moved out things changed. They were still there, but I had such as strong sense of independence that I would not seek their help unless my back was completely against the wall. Often times though, I found that if I'd just seeked their advice earlier I could have saved myself a great deal of distress. It took time, but I learned that no matter what my situation, my parents would always see me through. In short, experience taught me to trust them with progressively larger issues. And with my issues in their hands, I knew I didn't have to worry.

So why do we worry.... even after we turn things over to God? It's because you have not built the relationship of trust that assures YOU that He will take care of it. And how to do you fix it? You fix it by starting small. Pray for direction over small things. Wait for his response. Then follow his direction. In time you will come to see that His way is even more amazing than what you were hoping for. Not only does He reward obedience, He gives freely to those who love Him.

Trust is one of those securities that grows only with interaction and experience. Time is not enough to grow trust. This is a muscle that must be exercised in order to give you confidence that it won't fail you. If you cannot bridge the gap between faith in God and worrying about what's going to happen next, it is not due to lack of faith. It is due to lack of practice. So practice putting things in His hands over and over until you have nothing to fear and nothing to worry about.
